What is Item specifics?
Item specifics are eBay's structured product attributes — brand, model, size, colour, material, MPN. They drive Best Match ranking and the sidebar filters buyers use to narrow results.
Why it matters
Every unfilled specific is a filter you are excluded from. A listing missing a colour value simply does not appear for any buyer who filtered by colour, regardless of how good the description is.
eBay flags required and recommended specifics per category. Filling only the required ones caps your own visibility, and there is no warning when you do.
The description is barely indexed by comparison. On eBay, structured data does the discovery work and prose does the conversion work.
