Shopify product description generator
ListIQ Pro generates Shopify product descriptions, SEO titles, meta descriptions and product images from one photo. On your own store there is no marketplace algorithm — you compete in Google results, so the SEO fields do the work.
Free plan runs the real listing and image generators. Paid from $19/mo.
What you get
What ListIQ Pro generates for Shopify
Formatted for Shopify specifically, not written once and pasted across marketplaces.
Product description
Conversion-focused body copy, unique per product.
SEO page title
Written to Google's display length rather than a marketplace cap.
Meta description
The snippet that decides whether someone clicks your result.
Product images
White-background and lifestyle images, plus alt text for image search.
How Shopify search works
There is no marketplace algorithm — you are ranking in Google
This is the fundamental difference. On Amazon or Etsy you optimise for an internal search engine with its own rules and a captive audience already intending to buy. On Shopify you have neither. Your product page competes in Google against every other retailer, so the page title, meta description and body copy are doing conventional SEO work.
- Page title around 60 characters, or Google truncates it
- Meta description around 155 characters — it is your ad copy in results
- Product schema markup drives rich results with price and availability
- Unique copy per product; manufacturer descriptions are duplicate content
- Image alt text is both accessibility and image-search traffic
Field limits
Shopify listing limits
Output is written to these rather than to a generic template.
| Field | Limit | What that means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| SEO page title | ~60 characters | Not a Shopify limit — it is where Google truncates in results. |
| Meta description | ~155 characters | Google rewrites it often, but a good one still wins clicks. |
| Product description | No cap | Length is a conversion decision, not a compliance one. |
| Image alt text | Short and descriptive | Accessibility first, image-search traffic second. |
Limits vary by category and change over time. Last checked . Our free character counter checks your text against them live.
Images
What Shopify expects from your photos
Six image types are available at 2 credits each, generated from a single product photo.
- Consistent framing across the catalogue — inconsistency reads as unfinished
- White-background shots for the grid, lifestyle for the product page
- Compress properly; product images are usually the largest page weight
- Descriptive alt text on every image
- Square or consistent aspect ratio so collection grids align
Common mistakes
What goes wrong on Shopify
Generated output is fully editable, and these are the things worth checking before you paste it in.
Manufacturer descriptions are duplicate content
Pasting the supplier's description means competing against every other retailer using the same text. Google has no reason to rank yours. Unique copy per product is the baseline requirement, not an optimisation.
The SEO fields are not the product title
Shopify has a separate page title and meta description under Search engine listing. Many stores never touch them, so Google generates something from the page instead.
Thin descriptions do not rank
A one-line description gives Google nothing to work with and gives shoppers no reason to buy. This is the most common reason a Shopify product page gets no organic traffic at all.
FAQ
Shopify listing questions
How is Shopify SEO different from marketplace SEO?
On Shopify you rank in Google rather than inside a marketplace, so there is no internal algorithm or captive audience. Your page title, meta description, product copy and structured data do the work, and you compete against every other retailer selling something similar rather than against listings on the same platform.
Can I use my supplier's product description?
You can, but it will not rank. Every other retailer selling that product is using the same text, which makes yours duplicate content with no reason for Google to prefer it. Unique per-product copy is the minimum requirement for organic traffic on a Shopify store.
Does ListIQ Pro write meta descriptions for Shopify?
Yes. Alongside the product description it generates an SEO page title of around 60 characters and a meta description of around 155, which are the lengths Google displays before truncating. Both go into Shopify's Search engine listing fields.
Other marketplaces
Selling somewhere else too?
Each marketplace ranks on something different. These pages cover what changes.
