What is COSMO?
COSMO is Amazon's semantic search model, which interprets what a shopper is trying to accomplish rather than matching query text to listing text literally.
Why it matters
The practical consequence is that keyword density matters less and coherence matters more. A listing written as a list of search terms is harder for a semantic model to interpret than one written as clear explanation.
It also rewards specificity. A bullet phrased as an answer to a real shopper question — will it fit a bike cage, does it survive a dishwasher — is easier to match against intent than a fragment of a specification sheet.
COSMO does not make keywords irrelevant. A listing missing the words for what it is still will not rank for them. It changes the emphasis from density to placement and readability.
