eBay Title Builder
eBay gives you exactly 80 characters. Not a recommendation — a hard cap, and the tightest title limit of any major marketplace. Amazon allows 200. If you sell on both, eBay is the constraint that decides what your title can say.
Assemble the title from its parts below. The counter is live, and the checks flag the patterns eBay's own title guidance tells sellers to avoid.

Build the title
Fill what applies and leave the rest blank. The order is deliberate — eBay truncates from the right, so the fields at the top are the ones that survive.
Your title

20 characters left.

The first 40 characters do the heaviest lifting in search and are roughly what a mobile buyer reads. Everything faded is at risk of truncation.

eBay Title Builder: what actually matters
The structure that fits and ranks
Brand, then model or part number, then what the item actually is, then the attribute a buyer would filter by, then size or colour, then condition. That order front-loads the terms someone types and leaves the qualifiers at the end where truncation does least damage. The single most common failure is burying the item type behind adjectives — a buyer searching for a thing needs the thing named early.
What eBay does not want in a title
Decorative symbols, ALL CAPS, and attention words like “LOOK” or “WOW” are longstanding violations of eBay's own title guidance, and they consume characters that could carry a search term. Price and shipping terms are explicitly disallowed. Repeating a word to seem more relevant does not work either — eBay indexes a term once, so the repetition costs characters and returns nothing.
Item specifics matter as much as the title
eBay's structured item specifics are a major ranking and filtering surface, and an 80-character title cannot carry everything a buyer filters by. Fields you leave blank are filters your listing is excluded from — which looks identical to simply not ranking. If you have to choose between cramming a term into the title and filling in the matching specific, fill in the specific.
Why the eBay title should be drafted first
If you list the same product across marketplaces, draft to 80 characters before anything else and expand upward for Amazon and Walmart. The reverse — writing a 200-character Amazon title and cutting it down — tends to require a rewrite rather than a trim, because the words removed are the ones holding the sentence together.
FAQ
Common questions
Is 80 characters really a hard limit?
Yes. eBay will not accept a longer title, unlike Amazon and Walmart where the published maximum sits well above what they actually recommend using. On eBay the maximum and the target are the same number.
Should I include the price or free shipping in the title?
No. eBay explicitly forbids price and shipping terms in the title. They belong in the listing's own price and shipping fields, where buyers filter on them anyway.
Can I use a brand name in the title?
Only if you are selling authentic branded goods. Using a brand name on a generic or compatible product breaches eBay's VeRO programme and typically gets the listing removed quickly. For genuinely compatible parts the accepted phrasing is “fits” or “compatible with”, and it still has to be truthful.
Does this tool send my title anywhere?
No. It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted or stored.
