What is SKU?

Also known as Stock Keeping Unit

A SKU is your own internal code for a specific product variant. Unlike an ASIN or GTIN, it is chosen by you and does not need to be unique outside your own catalogue.

Why it matters

A SKU should identify one exact variant — size, colour, pack quantity — because inventory and profitability tracking are only as granular as your SKU scheme.

Encoding meaning into the SKU (supplier, category, size) makes bulk operations far easier later. Sequential numbers are simpler to create and considerably harder to work with at scale.

GTIN
